Sue Smith grew up in Southern California, moving to Oregon in 1972. Although always considering herself to be creative, it wasn't until a painting trip to Italy in 2001 that she began to seriously focus on her artwork.
Returning to school at age 51, Sue obtained her degree and graduated with the Distinguished Student - Department of Art Award from OSU-Cascades. Since then her work has been exhibited and sold to a growing group of patrons drawn to her use of color and ability to capture the sense of light in the High Desert.
Always drawn to the solitude in the landscape, Sue sees her painted invitation to explore the unknown spaces as a continuation of the curiosity inherited from her famous ancestor, "Johnny Appleseed." It is this sense of renewal and energy, found in the wilderness spaces, that become her subject matter
