ABOUT DIANA
Diana’s art career began quite unexpectedly in 2000 in Sedona, AZ. Despite a background in Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Spiritual Counseling and Alternative Healing, she was drawn to sign up for a workshop addressing “artistic block” and was instantly overcome with a deep desire and passion for creative expression. She passionately began exploring various mediums such as acrylics, watercolor pencil, watercolor and airbrush with acrylic. In 2001, along with a creative partner, she discovered her own airbrush technique using real plants from her garden to use as stencils, layering images one on top of another on numerous surfaces. She created her own business around this technique called Enchanted Gardenscapes and sold to local venues in Sedona, AZ. Simultaneously, she continued to explore fine art courses and workshops to discover which media might feel like a match. She moved to Boulder, Colorado in 2005 and after taking one series of classes in acrylics, she discovered pastels. This medium took center stage in her life and she has continued exploring deeper and deeper ways of expressing herself through this rich, sensuous media.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I have explored several artistic modalities, looking for an expression that would touch my heart and soul. Once I was introduced to pastels in 2005, I knew I had discovered that expression. Working with pastels allows me to immerse myself totally in the hands-on experience of blending saturated pigments to create depth, richness and form. I have found that by altering values and edges, endless feelings, movements and styles can be created. This visceral and tactile modality encourages me to take risks with both color and shapes to create moods of serenity, sensuality and rich abundance. I am able to merge with both the process and the art form itself. My choices in subject matter come from an innate love of the Divine. Whether creating a landscape or a still life, my love for Mother Nature and Her endless gifts can shine through and speak their own magic. Beauty, peace, and simplicity can be found at the core of each creation. My continuous goal is to discover and demonstrate what is truly extraordinary in the simple and ordinary displays of life.
